Congratulations!
Sometimes it was cold, but you went outside and took pictures anyway. Sometimes you didn't like the assignment, but you did it anyway (hopefully). You probably found out that it does take some patience for the right moment and lighting, an eye for composition, some PS tweaking and of course it helps to know your camera. You will be taking the pictures the rest of your life--have fun! You have the tools to make it more than a snap shot. Keep shooting! I have very much enjoyed seeing your pictures and teaching you this quarter--thank you! -Mrs. B

Show off!
I'm so proud of all of you! I've really enjoyed looking at your images over the past quarter. Now it's time for you (and me through you) to show off your great pictures! Remember, the Chocolate Factory wants to display your art! Save the pictures you want to print to the common drive (PSD/JPEG) and see me during class, lunch (RM 253) or after school. Congrats on a quarter well done!

LAST Summative--Photo Series--Due 1/21 (3)
One of the more difficult tasks of an artist is to create their own visual "problem." Are you up to the task? The last assignment will be up to you to figure out! A series of 3 photos should be on your blog before class 1/21 (Thurs) along with an ARTIST STATEMENT (see below). The images should be linked in some way (concept/subject/theme/technique) with the intent of achieving a "fine art" image.
You will be graded on:
*Artist Statement: On your blog, write a paragraph(s) on any 3 of the following questions: 1) What have you learned this quarter about yourself in regards to taking pictures or about digital photography/photoshop in general? 2) How would you define "fine art photography"? 3) What are your goals in the future in regards to photography? 4) After viewing many different images, is there a particular style, technique, artist, subject matter, etc. that you are drawn to or are inspired by? 5) Tell how your interest in photography began.
ALSO, EVERYONE MUST CONCLUDE WITH AN EXPLANATION FOR THE INSPIRATION/MEANING OF YOUR SERIES. What are you trying to communicate and how are you doing that?
*Technical merit: Clear focus, correct light exposure (avoid "noise") and adequate color adjustments
*Composition: Visually balanced with dominant focal point and overall unity
*Content/Creativity/Quality: Series shows a unique approach and is successfully communicated through artistic choices in subject matter/color choices to produce an image of high quality
This is your last big project--make it your best!!!

Creating Depth with Atmospheric Perspective
Which picture shows depth better and how?
As we work on our surrealism images, I have noticed a few of you are trying to create the illusion of depth. By understanding atmospheric perspective, you will be able to create a more realistic environment. How do we create atmospheric perspective?

In Living Color- Due 1/15 (3)

Color plays a vital role in the world in which we live. Color can sway your thinking, change actions and cause reactions. As a powerful form of communication, color is meaningful and irreplaceable. For this assignment you will be challenged to use color to evoke a particular mood and/or a psychological effect.
Here are a few things to keep in mind: how colors relate to other colors, how contrast and saturation can affect mood, how other artists have done this, how you respond to color, and also, how color is and has been utilized in our (or in any) society (i.e. media, military/authority, baby nurseries, bus stations, etc.). Consider lighting, composition, subject matter and Photoshop’s color tweaking potential.
This assignment will help you to pay careful attention to the construction of your images, to the importance of the communicative role of art, to the diverse ways in which viewers interpret and relate to photographs and the degree to which color can be used to translate meaning.
You will need 3 photographs on your blog that represent color (before class on 1/15). For each picture tell us what mood/psychological effect you are trying to communicate and how you did that.
You will be graded on the following:
-Content (the essence/message): All ideas in the image are arranged to present an origianl/unique variation of a mood/psychological effect
- Composition: All parts are unified through dominant elements and principles with a strong focal point
-Technical: Strong focus, color & value balanced, well-planned lighting (avoids "noise")
